The new Mahindra’s Reva looks like a futuristic stylish car!! Though the car is compact with two doors, it has sufficient leg room for four passengers to sit comfortably in the car. It was India’s first electric car launched in 2001. The hatchback car is fully automatic with no gear, no clutch technology making it easy to drive in cities.

Subsidies on Buying Reva
The government offers an incentive of INR 1.38 lakh for cars under the FAME scheme. Mahindra claims that servicing an e2O would cost about INR 2,000 for every 10,000 km as against INR 3000-3500 for a fuel based car. Moreover, no pollution check certification required for e20 which comes up to INR 2000 pa for small petrol cars in India. The current running cost comes up to 70 paise per km.
The cost of lithium ion battery 2.5-3 lakh (2013) which needs replacement at the end of five years. Around 2014, Mahindra had also announced a battery rental scheme in which a buyer had to pay INR 2,599 each month as EMI for 5 years towards battery rental charges. The total cost of battery would be around INR 1.56 lakhs as per this scheme. Don’t forget an electric car is at least three times more efficient than a petrol or diesel car.
Charging Your Reva car
It takes 7 hours to fully charge the car which can be conveniently done at night. A fully charged Reva can easily drive up to 48 miles. In terms of charging, the e2o should cost Rs 50 per 100 km. A typical fossil fuel car would have a running cost of INR 75,000 as against only INR 5000 for an electric car (assuming you have to pay INR 50 per 100 km for charging). However, please note that in a number of places around Delhi itself many charging points let you charge your vehicle for free). This would result in an annual net saving of INR 70,000 conservatively.
