While a lot of people have heard about Tesla and its sophisticated Electric Vehicles, the overall awareness of Electric Vehicles and its benefits remains low in India. It is thought of as an expensive habit which can be afforded only by the rich. However, it is a misconception as Electric Vehicles have become a mainstream segment in major countries and the prices of EVs are falling continuously with a decline in battery costs and increasing scale. All major automobile manufacturers such as Mercedes, BMW, Volvo, GM, Nissan and many others have either already launched Electric Vehicles or plan to do that soon.

One of the biggest hurdles in driving an Electric Vehicle is the lack of Electric Vehicle Charging stations which are needed to power the car, just as petrol/diesel is needed to fuel normal cars. It is a chicken and egg problem where cars are not sold without chargers and chargers are not installed without Electric Vehicles. While the government and some utilities such as Tata Power have announced plans to install chargers, you will be pleased to know that there are already Electric Vehicle chargers installed who give power for free!!!!!!!

DLF has installed Electric Vehicle Chargers at the parking places of most of its major malls in Delhi such as Saket and Vasant Kunj. They have not only installed dedicated spaces for Electric Vehicles but also allow you to charge your car for free. The icing on the cake is the fact that they also give a 50% discount on your parking fees. Electric Vehicles have been heavily incentivized in major countries such as the U.S., China and Norway where you not only get thousands of dollars in tax credits for buying Electric Vehicles but also privileges such as free parking, being able to drive on bus lanes etc. India too needs to enact such policies to push people to move away from carbon emitting vehicles which are the cause of dangerous pollution in most India cities such as Delhi, Kolkata, Mumbai etc.
