Mahindra Set To Uber-ize the Indian Cities

A lot is happening in the automotive sector globally. Driverless and automated cars will become the new norm for the world in the future. Trends like mobility as a service (MaaS) and ridesharing are set to change the face of the automotive industry in India. In addition, the launch of electric vehicles will support the whole transition and drive towards a cleaner world.

In addition to launching its own set of EVs, the auto giant Mahindra is launching its independent e-mobility service called Glyd. The service will directly compete with the likes of Ola and Uber in our country. Mahindra has been one of the first movers in the EV revolution in India. The company is successfully running its e20 and eVerito on and around the Delhi roads. Mahindra had also tied up with Ola Cabs for a pilot run. Now, Mahindra has launched its own tech-based electric mobility solution in one of India’s busiest city of Mumbai, to cater to the office going commuters. The cars have been loaded with entertainment and music content and also house air purifiers and strain-free lighting for the commuters. The company has plans to launch these cars in more and more Indian cities.

“The company has from time to time provided innovatively and first of its kind e-mobility solutions. Glyd is one such flagship premium e-mobility solution to redefine the in-commute experience of daily commuters,” M&M Managing Director Dr Pawan Goenka said in a statement.

The app-based taxi system has been changing the way we commute today. Given the convenience and affordability, I would say that these cabs have only increased the overall carbon footprint of countries. Using an electric vehicle fleet will go a long way in reducing the pollution levels building up in the Indian cities. Better infrastructure in the form of ample charging stations and raising awareness is the need of the hour.
