Solar Carport AT Kochi Airport

India’s southern city of Kochi is going to increase the solar energy installation at its facilities. The airport already has a huge 15 MW solar energy capacity which is supplying power for most of its usage. This will further increase by 40% as the authority is going to install solar panels on 225000 square feet of its carports as well as some of the ground spaces. Note that airports are ideal places to install solar energy panels as they have huge unused rooftop spaces. They also consume vast amounts of power almost 24/7 which means that the electricity generated by solar panels can be easily consumed at the places that the power is generated.

Carports are also a great place to generate solar power as the rooftop space  on top are not used at all. They provide valuable real estate to put solar panels and given the vast amounts of parking in airports, you can generate a lot of electricity from these solar carports. In the west, carports are one of the most popular commercial areas for generating solar energy. In India, institutions have large carports which they can use to supply a significant part of their energy consumption requirements.

Cochin Airport says that after installing another 6 MW of solar energy, it will become the first airport in the world to go completely green by using solar energy for its complete power requirements.
