India's Tata Power looks to become a Geothermal Energy Leader,Targets 25% from Renewable Sources by 2017

India is one of the fastest growing economies in the world with fundamentals indicating that this rapid growth will continue for the next 10-20 years as well.However Green Investing in India is fraught with risk since major Green Energy Companies like Suzlon and Moser Baer have proven to be abject failures till now.A Good Way to do make Green Investments into India is through Renewable Energy Focused Utilities.Tata Power which is one of India’s largest utilities is looking to focus on Green Energy as well.The company has 16% of its power supplied from Renewable Energy Sources and is looking to increase it to 25% by 2017.With the Tata Group coming under fire from Green NGOs like Greenpeace for Environment Degradation,this plans makes good sense.Geothermal Energy is its focus area wit h plants to be built in India,Australia and Indonesia.It got a leg up in its ambitions when a 240 MW Geothermal Energy Plant in Indonesia got awarded to a consortium led by it beating competitors like Medco.Tata Power which is also looking to tap into Geothermal energy resources in Gujarat which has a government strongly supporting Green Energy Initiatives.Note Tata Power already has Wind Farm Assets and its subsidiary Tata BP Solar is one of the largest solar products manufacturers in India.Indonesia has a target of generating 9.5 GW from Geothermal Energy by 2025 and Tata Power is looking to bag a big chunk of these projects.From this project win,it seems that the company is well on its way.

Tata Power consortium bags 240MW Indonesian geothermal project – ET

Private power producer Tata Power said it has bagged a 240 MW geothermal power project in Indonesia in consortium with Australian company Origin Energy Limited and PT Supraco Indonesia. The consortium comprising Tata Power (47.50 per cent), Origin Energy Ltd (47.50 per cent) and PT Supraco Indonesia (5 per cent) were declared as the successful bidder for the Sorik Marapi geothermal project in Northern Sumatra, Indonesia, a Tata Power statement said. The Sorik Marapi project is estimated to support the development of approximately 240 MW of geothermal generation capacity.
