August 16, 2010Sikhism’s most Holy Shrine the Golden Temple situated in Amritsar,Punjab will be now a part of the Green Energy Movement.The Punjab Energy Development Agency (PEDA) has awarded a project to retrofit 5 prominent places in the Punjab state with solar PV panels.The award for these projects has gone to Punj Lloyd one of the biggest EPC companies in India.The firm recently started a renewable energy arm to leverage India’s ambitious Solar Energy Program – the Jawarharlal Nehru National Solar Mission which aims for 20 GW by 2022.The 5 projects will install 106 kW in total and is aimed at promoting the use of Solar Energy by display of this form of Renewable Energy at prominent places.Note Punjab situated in the western Punjab of India is dominated by followers of the Sikh religion and is one of the most prosperous places in India benefiting from the Green Revolution.
The Special Area Development Program under which these projects were awarded will see the “Harmindar Sahib” (Golden Temple) be lighted up with 18 kW of solar PV panels at a total cost of around $600,000.There were 10 bidders for these prestigious projects amongst which Punj Lloyd was the cheapest bidder.
Punjab allots 5 solar power projects to Punj Lloyd – FE
Punjab Energy Development Agency (PEDA) has allotted five solar power projects to construction major Punj Lloyd to be set up at locations, including the Golden Temple and the Punjab Assembly.‘‘Punj Lloyd has been allotted solar power projects, which will be set up at several locations in Punjab and Chandigarh,’’ a senior official of Punjab Energy Development Agency (PEDA), which is executing the project, said here on Wednesday.
Over 10 bidders participated in the bidding and Punj Lloyd was the lowest bidder among them, he said.State-owned PEDA had invited bids for setting up solar power projects at various locations such as the Golden Temple (18 KW) and Durgiana Mandir (11KW) in Amritsar, Punjab Raj Bhawan (45 KW), Punjab Secretariat (12 KW) and Punjab Assembly (20 KW) here.
