According to the German Federal Agency,Germany added 1.7 GW of Solar Energy in the month of June. This bring the cumulative installed capacity for 2010 to 3.4 GW capacity compared to the 3.8 GW capacity installed in the entire 2009.The reduction in Feed in Tariffs in July 2010 has propelled the developers to finish all the projects by June 30 in order to qualify for the much higher electricity rates. This has led to 50,000 applications in June which is a sort of record even for Germany which has almost 50% of the world’s solar energy capacity.
The USA has been a laggard in climate change legislation and global warming issues.Political bickering has delayed the climate change and energy bill to such an extent that it looks like it won’t happen in 2010.Even with a supportive President Obama and the BP Oil Spill,USA is falling behind in the Clean Technology Sweepstakes.USA’s Solar Energy Policies seem misguided as the administration is supporting firms like Solyndra while established companies like Energy Conversion Devices and Evergreen Solar face potential bankruptcy.USA has 1.75 GW of solar capacity installed till 2009 according to SEIA.With Germany installing 1.7 GW in June alone, this means that Germany is installing as much solar capacity as the USA’s entire historical installed capacity. This does not speak too well of USA’s efforts in the Green Energy Area.
Germany added a record of about 3.4 gigawatts (GW) of photovoltaic capacity in the first half of the year, equivalent to three big coal or nuclear power plants, the German Federal Network Agency said on Tuesday. That included approximately 1.7 GW in June alone ahead of changes in laws that accelerated cuts in the feed-in tariff utilities pay to generators of renewable energy.
