Choose Energy-Efficient Equipment

Regardless of which industry you’re in, chances are you use some sort of equipment, from lamps to computers. Upgrading to energy-efficient equipment is a great way to reduce the amount of energy your business consumes. Some businesses even invest in renewable energy sources like solar panels to further reduce carbon emissions.

Encourage Employees to Choose Sustainable Transport

Transportation is one of the biggest contributing factors to gas emissions. Maintaining clean air is in everyone’s best interest.  Encouraging your employees to choose sustainable transportation methods can make a significant impact on the environment.

You can encourage an employee carpool program, which not only reduces emissions but also saves employees money on gas. Another idea is to offer free or reduced-fare public transport cards to employees. Additionally, you could encourage employees to walk or ride their bikes to work several times a week. To incentivize them to use alternative transportation, offer a prize to the employee with the least amount of transportation-related emissions per month.

Practice the 3 Rs

Reducing, reusing, and recycling are still incredibly important, especially at work. Implementing a waste reduction strategy like going paperless or encouraging employees to bring reusable water bottles instead of plastic ones is a great way to reduce the amount of waste we create. Depending on what kind of business you run, you may find various ways to reduce the amount of waste your company produces.  Above all, recycle as much as possible, and opt for recyclable products as much as possible.  You may even want to consider only working with eco-friendly vendors who offer recycled products.

Educate Your Employees

One of the most powerful ways that businesses can make an impact on the environment is by educating their employees. Teach them about eco-friendly practices and encourage a commitment to sustainability not only at work but also at home. Create a green-conscious culture by providing your employees with the information they need to make more eco-conscious choices. Teach them about what can and can’t be recycled, and how to produce less waste.

Knowledge is power, and the more you arm your employees with knowledge on how to contribute to a greener earth, the more they will demonstrate an eco-conscious lifestyle at work and also in their personal life.
