Electrifying Your Way Into 2023 – Upcoming Electric Cars in India

The Indian market is now more receptive to electric cars. With rising concerns about poor air quality in cities, more advanced technology, and supportive infrastructure in addition to full government support, the country seems to be more welcoming to electrifying its journey in the near future. Most large car companies already have variants running on Indian roads and are excited about their upcoming new launches in 2023.

Here is a list of new electric cars expected in 2023 with details like price and technology so readers can choose their pick:

1. Tata Altroz EV

Expected to be launched in February 2023, Tata Altroz EV comes at an attractive price tag of Rs.12-15 lakhs. The car is expected to come with the same electric powertrain, power distribution unit, and battery pack as the other Tata EVs. The new Tata Altroz will also have connected car technology that will guide the driver to the nearest charging station when necessary.

2. MG Air EV

After the success of MG ZS electric car in India, MG is set to launch a compact electric car. Slated to launch in January 2023, the upcoming MG electric car will cater to the affordable car category competing with the likes of Tata Tiago and Tigor EVs in India. MG Air EV will be the smallest electric car in India measuring just 2,900 mm with a price tag of ~Rs.10 lakhs. The car will be powered by a 20-25 kWh battery along with a single front-axle fitted electric motor and a power output of 68 hp. It will also house a dual-display touchscreen infotainment system.

3. Mahindra XUV400

Next on the list is Mahindra XUV400 which is an estimated launch date in January 2023. Expected to cost around Rs.12-16 lakhs,  Mahindra XUV400 will be Mahindra’s first all-electric SUV that will compete with the likes of Tata Nexon EV Max and the MG ZS EV. The electric car will be powered by a 39.4 kWh lithium-ion battery pack and the estimated range is 450 km on a full charge.

4. Ioniq 5

Hyundai Ioniq EV

Hyundai’s Ioniq 5 is built on Hyundai Motor Group’s Electric-Global Modular Platform and the term IONIQ is a fusion of “ion” and “unique”. The E-GMP platform comprises of vehicle chassis that includes – a battery, motor, and power electric system. The battery system features an advanced battery pack offering a high range. Its bi-directional charging plug allows the high-voltage battery to power various electronic appliances. The car’s launch is expected to be in mid-2023 and it will cost you around Rs.45 lakhs.
