The Four Best Selling Electric Cars in India Entering into 2022

Last Sunday when I went out for a drive, my son pointed out to many green-plated cars plying on the road. I was delighted to see a decent number of electric cars on Delhi roads. My last article, Electric Cars – The Solution to Rising Pollution in India talks about the need of buying electric cars, what the states and the country are collectively planning on this front. In this article, we will talk about the four best-selling electric cars in India.
1. Tata Nexon – Nexon is Tata’s electric SUV car starting from Rs. 14,00,000 ex-showroom price in India. It comes with a fast charge – up to 80% charged within 60 minutes, and a battery and motor warranty of 8 years. Nexon also has the option of regular charging (10%-90% in 8.5 hours) through any 15 Amp plug point. The car comes with smart regenerative braking that helps maintain the charge at all times. It has an electric sunroof with tilt function, premium leather seats, digital instrument cluster with full graphic display and LED tail lamps. Nexon is currently available in two color variants – Teal Blue and Glacier White. 2. Tata Tigor – Tigor is another Tata sedan in the electric segment launched at a price range of approximately Rs. 12,00,000. The car comes with a fast charge – up to 80% charge within 65 minutes and a battery and motor warranty of 8 years. The car also has the option of regular charging (10%-80% in 8.5 hours) through any 15 Amp plug point. Tigor is currently available in two color variants – Daytona Grey and Teal Blue. The car looks aesthetically pleasing with a smart exterior and glossy black roof and is fitted with the Tri-Arrow motif. The tyres are sturdy and are designed to handle all terrains. Tata Motors ZConnect app offers 30+ connected car features including remote commands, vehicle health monitoring, safety & security, driving & trip analytics, and location-based services. Tigor EV houses a 26 kWh lithium-ion battery pack with a high-performing motor controller that is integrated with Ziptron technology.

3. MG ZS – The car comes with a dual-pane panoramic sun roofing, all leather interiors, PM 2.5 filter, six-way power adjusting seats, push-button start-stop, three driving modes – eco, sport, and normal. The car has three color options – blue, white, and red. It is equipped with a 44.5 kWh hi-tech battery. The price of ZS EV top model is Rs. 24.22 lakh.

4. Hyundai Kona – Hyundai’s Kona is an all-electric SUV in India with a price tag of approximately Rs.23-24 lakhs. It comes with a closed grille, aerodynamically optimized wheels and underbody, as well as an active air flap in the front bumper. The car has a high electric range with a 452 km run (per full charge), a low running charge, an impressive acceleration of 0-100 km/h in just 9.7 seconds, and three driving modes – eco, comfort, and sport. The car battery comes with a standard warranty of 8 years and it also has a wonder warranty of up to 5 years standard. The car offers phantom black, typhoon silver, polar white and polar white with a black roof as color options. Kona has a high voltage lithium-ion polymer battery of 39.2 kWh capacity and can be charged 0-100% in ~6 hrs 10 minutes (AC charging) and 0-80% in ~57 minutes (DC charging).
