Decarbonization: Understanding the Process

A big change is a product of many small changes. When we read about environmental awareness, it somehow always comes across as an idea that falls out of our personal lives. Even though it directly concerns all of us individually, somehow, it feels like it is not our problem to rectify. This mindset has seen a significant shift in the last couple of years. People from different backgrounds and age groups are realizing the power that they have, to bring about a change by using their voices and actions. Huge organizations and industries are becoming more aware of structuring the decarbonization process and are slowly opting for them. Many industries and companies are keen on making sure that their sites and plant rooms emit minimal amounts of greenhouse gases, taking steps to unlock a brighter future.

So, what exactly do we mean by decarbonization? In simple words, it deals with lowering the emission of carbon and greenhouse gases by multiple sources to control environmental deterioration. Let’s go a little further with this topic by getting into the structuring of the decarbonization process:

1. Understand Your Potential and Baseline

Before commencing the decarbonization process, get a hold of where you stand and how far do you intend to go with this project. Set achievable goals and have a plan in hand on how you plan on accomplishing them. You can start the process by creating baseline emissions by source. It is always a good idea to use data solutions to analyze and curate data in an orderly manner.

2. Circle Down and Declare Your Targets

This is a technique that works almost every time, whenever one must reach a goal. When you are confident about your aim, announcing it kicks in encouragement, shoots up, energy, and boosts success. It will help you stay focused and planned in the entire course of action, bringing out sharp executions.

3. Use Decarbonization Strategies

Attaining a decarbonized economy is the larger goal. We need to take baby steps for that to come true. All industries function differently, with different assets, technologies, and machinery. This calls for becoming more aware of decarbonization solutions and strategies. There is no one definite decarbonization program that fits all. Each industry is a unique setup of infrastructure upgrades, digital solutions, data management,  etc.

4. Accurate Monitorization and Adjustments

Any project that is under progress needs close observation and consistent check-ups. There are high chances of something unpredictable showing up that might need assistance or aid. If you want to achieve decarbonization goals like the requirement of additional human capital, reallocation of finances, technology resources, etc., it is best to monitor the plan at the right intervals. Also, it is preferable to keep communicating and holding discussions throughout the supply chain about decarbonization processes.

Next, let’s delve into the many benefits of decarbonization:

  • Firstly, it saves energy by a huge margin.
  • Resource optimization with energy performance contracting, advanced building management system, etc.
  • Low carbon replacement with electrification, renewable energy, etc.
  • Supply chain neutrality with lifecycle assessments, sustainable procurement practices, etc.

To make the decarbonized economy a reality, everyone needs to step up and shoulder the responsibility of making this planet a healthier and safer place. Decarbonization, as a process, takes many resources and assets. Hence, it becomes essential to consult professionals and service providers who exclusively carry information about decarbonization solutions. Before executing any idea or plan, it is safe to equip yourself with services that carry the expertise to guide you through it all.
