Solar rankings based on shipments 2014
The solar companies recently gave their full year 2014 results. Given below are the Chinese solar companies ranking based on shipments in 2014.
Trina Solar (TSL) emerged as the winner with 3.7 GW shipments in 2014, followed by Yingli Green Energy (YGE) in the second position. Canadian Solar (CSIQ) and JA Solar (JASO) follow closely with 3.1 GW. Yingli Green Energy was the leader in 2013 with 3.23 GW, but was replaced by Trina Solar in 2014.

However, looking at the shipment guidance given by these companies, it looks like Yingli Green will move two places down from second currently to fourth in 2015. Jinko Solar is following very closely and might replace Yingli to move to the last position.
The company will thus move from first position to fifth in just two years’ time. Yingli Green Energy has a strong brand name, which helps the company to bag deals on a regular basis. However, the company has failed to prove its muscle in the downstream project business, where competition is fast gaining traction. Trina Solar, Canadian Solar, Jinko Solar have a strong project pipeline which is fast expanding. Solar companies have diversified into the project business, which is more profitable. I think Yingli is losing grounds on this front. Though it has started to focus on projects but it needs to strengthen and diversify its project pipeline to come back into the game. Currently the company has 1.6 GW at different approval stages, mostly present in China.
