Chaori Solar was the first company in China to undergo the first bond default and filed for bankruptcy in July 2014. GCL-New Energy bought a 30% stake in Chaori Solar and together with other investors have a 66% majority shareholding. Since then Chaori Solar has been supplying to GCL New Energy. GCL in turn got access to its 520 MW solar cell and 800 MW module production capacity. This helped GCL group to have its own solar panels rather than outsourcing it. GCL Poly is the supplier to Chaori Solar. While GCL New Energy is engaged in the business of solar power plant operation and maintenance, GCL Poly is the world’s largest producer of polysilicon and wafers and is also engaged in solar farming. GCL now sells Chaori solar panels.
Frankfurt Solar, a German solar company also sells Chaori Solar panels under its own brand. The company is an independent power producer of solar and wind projects. The panels are available from warehouses in Germany and the after-sale-service is also provided in Germany.
About Chaori Solar
Shanghai Chaori Solar Energy Co. Ltd. was established in 2003 and is located in the Fengxian district of Shanghai. It has a registered capital of 527 million Yuan and employs more than 1,500 people. Chaori is a vertically integrated company producing of ingots, wafers, cells, modules and also instals PV system. The company sells solar products in Germany, Spain, Italy, Japan and United States.
Chaori Solar US, the US subsidiary of Shanghai Solar Energy Science and Technology was in news when Premier Power Renewable Energy concluded a US$27.6 million agreement with it. The agreement envisaged building a number of solar power plants in USA. China Solar Gmbh is a German registered subsidiary which specializes in the construction of solar power plants. The company also has plans to expand into Europe.
The company has a wide product range and offers crystalline silicon solar modules, cells, silicon, batteries, ingots and other solar products like solar lights.

Costs & Affordability
Chaori Solar Panels are amongst the low cost solar panels like other Chinese solar panels. They would typically cost around 65 cents per watt of the solar module. However, they are standard quality solar panels with safety glass, anti-reflection coating and durable aluminium frames. Chaori holds a membership with the PV Cycle Association.
