LDK Solar Panel Review

LDK Solar is one of the biggest producer of solar wafers that are used by crystalline solar panels. LDK Solar was established in 2005 in China. As a vertically integrated manufacturer and supplier of photovoltaic (PV) products, LDK Solar has more than 21,900 employees worldwide. The Company’s headquarters and manufacturing facilities are located in China. LDK Solar manufactures and markets multicrystalline and monocrystalline wafers for manufacturers of solar cells and modules. It sells Solar Panels mostly to other Solar Panel Companies. LDK Solar acquired the crystalline module manufacturing plant of Best Solar in February 2010 to bring the manufacturing capability in-house. It constructed a polysilicon plant with two production facilities near its wafer production plants in Xinyu, China.

Product Range

LDK Solar has a vertically integrated business model; producing its own polysilicon, monocrystalline and multicrystalline ingots, wafers, cells and modules. It covers the entire photovoltaic value chain.

Solar Panels

The company has three module manufacturing facilities located in Nanchang City, Suzhou City and Hefei City in China. The PV modules are formed by interconnecting multiple PV cells in the desired electrical configuration through taping and stringing. The interconnected cells are laid out and laminated in a vacuum and then go through a curing/ heating process. Through these processes, the PV modules are sealed and become weatherproof and are able to withstand high levels of ultraviolet radiation and moisture. Assembled PV modules are packed in a protective aluminum frame prior to testing.

Features:

  • Module power output warranty of 25 years
  • International quality and safety certifications
  • Manufactured in ISO 9000 certified factories
  • High-reliability with guaranteed 0/+5W peak power classification
  • Excellent performance under low light environments
  • Entire module certified to withstand high wind and snow loads

Types of Solar Panels:

The Solar Modules are majorly of two types – Monocrystalline and Multicrystalline.

1) Monocrystalline Modules – The monocrystalline power series of solar modules range from 160watts to 250watts in power output. The solar modules are clean, environmentally friendly and built as per customer specifications.

i) LDK Solar 180D to 200D Series

Number & type of cell: 72 (6×12), 125mm mono cell

Dimension: 1580x808x40 mm / 62.4×31.8×1.6 inches

ii) LDK Solar 220D to 260D Series

Number & type of cell: 60 (6×10), 156mm mono cell

Dimension: 1642x994x40 mm / 64.6×39.1×1.6 inches

2) Multicrystalline Modules – are available in a broader range of on-grid and off-grid solutions for residential, commercial, industrial and utility scale applications around the world. The multicrystalline power series of solar modules range from 160watts to 280watts in power output.

i) LDK Solar 170P to 200P Series

Warranty

LDK Solar provides one of the most comprehensive module warranties in the industry:

  • 10 years for product defects in materials and workmanship
  • First 12 years for 90% of warranted minimum power
  • Remaining 25 years for 80% of warranted minimum power

Costs & Affordability:

China’s Solar Industry is the biggest in the world. LDK Solar is one of the lowest cost panel manufacturer today offering panels at just 70-80 cents per watt. The last two years have been brutal for the solar panel industry, has a never ending oversupply & has led to thousands of bankruptcies around the world. In the midst of the carnage, top Chinese solar panel producers have kept on increasing capacity and production to take market share from others. Now even the big daddies of the Chinese solar industry like Trina, Suntech, LDK, GCL Poly are being forced to slash jobs and production as they run out of money after two years of losses.

LDK looks to Sell Itself as it Runs out of Money

The company was looking to raise funds and may sell a strategic stake, CEO Xiaofeng Peng said on a conference call with analysts, after unveiling a second-quarter loss nearly three times as high as a year earlier.

“In the past few months we’ve had in-depth discussions with several companies and few of them have shown a significant interest in taking a strategic investment position in the company,” he said, adding that the company had not received any offer yet.

This is a very old write up, LDK Solar Panels in Australia are falling apart with in 5 years, LDK company is no longer around. People have to now pay again for new solar panels to replace their failed LDK panels.
