A Recent Survey conducted by TCS shows that 85% of School Students were hooked on to Social Networking. With poll of 10,000 students taken amongst students in the range of 12-18 from 11 cities, the sample may not be an exact one. However it shows that around 8 out of 10 school students are members of Networking sites such as Myspace,Facebook,Orkut and others.Orkut continues to be the dominant SN website despite its poor performance globally.Facebook has been rising exponentially with some students spending 2 hours or more everyday on Facebook. The rise of Social Networking portends important changes for marketers and educationists.Note Google and Wiki are also well represented with school students using them increasingly to access information and entertainment.

Solar Panels has suddenly become one of the biggest industrial consumers of the Silver Metal in 2010.The massive growth of the solar industry has surprised analysts and forecasters alike and caused surprising demand in the most unlikely of places. With 15-17 GW of Solar Panel Production estimated in 2010,the silver consumption will be around 65 million ounces or 1800 tons. With production of around 21000 tons, the Solar Industry is now responsible for around 9% of the global Silver production.Note Despite Silver touching new record highs,it has not affected the solar prices much which have continued to decline by almost 50% in the last couple of years.

Deflating Developed Countries are fueling Inflation in Developing Ones with ultra low interest rates.QE2 has been heavily criticized around the world due to the dangers of it creating asset bubbles in emerging markets as yield hungry investors look for growth at any price. With hundred of billions flooding emerging debt and equity markets, the situation has become volatile for a lot of countries.Brazil has already seen its currency skyrocket in the last 2-3 years due to the huge spread between its bond yields and the US interest rates. With carry investors able to make around 10%,Brazil remains a favorite market for the inflow of dollars.Other countries like Thailand,Malaysia,Indonesia have seen their stock markets rallying to all time highs as well. Many of these countries have already imposed capital controls earlier. Now they are increasing further,as monetary authorities rush to close the gates.

Nokia is trying to turnaround its sinking fortunes with a radical change in strategy which involves New Hardware – N8,Software – Meego Operating System with Intel,AMD and Management – Elop from Microsoft. However the changes don’t seem to be working as of now.White Box Mobile Phones from China continue to erode Nokia’s marketshare in emerging markets while Google and Apple finish it off in the high end smartphone segments.N8 with its 12 Megapixel Camera was supposed to be Nokia’s answer to the iPhone and Android handsets Galaxy,Incredible and Droid. However N8 is already facing teething problems with Delays,Lack of Sex Appeal and the latest power problems with some of its handsets. This is not going to do any good to Nokia’s smartphone prospects as it lacks the aura of the iPhone.Despite some Signal problems,iPhone sales have continued to power through while Nokia does not have anything near the same brand power. It is playing the role of a challenger despite its dominant marketshare in the world smartphone market and can’t afford any missteps.

Renewable Energy Certificate (REC) Policy is starting in India tomorrow which will allow Green Energy Generators to earn additional tariff.Note the REC Mechanism is also present in different forms in Italy,USA and Australia and has proven a good incentive to promoter Renewable Energy in those countries.India’s Electricity Regulator (CERC) has been actively implementing different orders to boost Green Energy Generation.CERC had earlier mandated a 6% Renewable Energy Percentage from Alternative Energy which would go upto 15% by 2020.The REC Policy will help in achieving those targets by providing a pseud market linked mechanism to inentivize Green Power Producers.

Who will Benefit

Renewable Energy Companies and Green Utilities are set to benefit the most from this Policy.Suzlon has already welcomed the policy saying that Financing will ease for Renewable Energy Projects.Orient Green Power, the largest Green Focused Utility will also be a big beneficiary.Local Indian Wind Turbine Companies should also benefit from the Scheme. It also provides companies outside the JNNSM to get decent returns from solar generation as the REC band for Solar REC has been set between Rs 12-17/Kwh.India need to increase Renewable Energy Capacity by at least 50 GW in the next 10 year to meet the 15% CERC Target

India is a Software Powerhouse ,home to some top Technology Companies like Infosys,TCS and Wipro.Besides top IT Companies worldwide have huge India Development Centers. No Technology Company of Decent Size can afford not to have a Sizeable base in India.Project Management Skills and a Huge Engineering Workforce have made India a power to reckon with. However most of the IT work done in India continues to be of low value addition. Most of the Technology Development and Research Work continues to happen in the US.That is the reason that you don’t see a Google or Apple being incubated in India till now. However things have started to move up the value ladder with Large Indian IT Companies fast approaching the scale limits on IT Outsourcing. However their efforts till date have not been very encouraging.India’s IT Companies don’t find a slot in the Top 10 Indian Companies, however Infosys and TCS are present in the Top 10 by Market Value.Note Top Indian IT Companies have increased the Lead over the middle and smaller IT Companies recently as Global Customers look towards Bigger Indian Companies as more Reliable. Here is a list of Top Indian IT Companies which I have divided them into 3 Tiers depending on their scale, market value ,quality and growth
