Approved List of Models and Manufacturers by MNRE

The MNRE has decided to publish a list of approved models and manufacturers for solar cells and PV modules complying with the BIS norms. The list is expected to be published by April 2020 after which, only the models and manufacturers included in these lists will be eligible for use in government and government-assisted projects, and schemes and programs, to be implemented across the country.

The projects that are approved before this list coming into effect, would be exempted from the mandatory procurement of cells and modules from the enlisted manufacturers. This Approved List of Models and Manufacturers (ALMM) will comprise of two parts/ lists. List-I and List-II will specify models and manufacturers of solar modules and solar cells, respectively. In order to qualify for getting listed in List-I, a manufacturer needs to get the BIS certification for each model according to the MNRE order. A team of MNRE will conduct an inspection of the manufacturing facility of the manufacturers before considering them for inclusion in the list. Production and sale audit of the company will also be conducted. Not only this, the manufacturers shall be subject to random quality checks from time-to-time. The models and manufacturers will be enlisted for a minimum period of two years, which can be later renewed later depending upon their product/ service performance and upon the submission of the required documents.

Timely intimation about the passage of this list was given to associations of solar power developers and solar equipment manufacturers, as well as major banks and financial institutes, and state governments, agencies including discoms.
