After Rajasthan, Adani Group of India is now looking at Tamil Nadu for setting up extensive solar parks. These parks will supply 648 MW of power to Tamil Nadu Generation and Distribution Corporation Ltd (TANGEDCO), according to an agreement signed between Adanis and the Tamil Nadu government. This will entail an investment of Rs 4,536 crore. TANGEDCO has also entered into agreements with other private players to generate 436 MW of solar power. This would lead to a total of Rs.7,588 crore solar investment for the state. The southern state of Tamil Nadu is more biased towards large scale solar parks when compared to rooftop solar.
“I am very happy to be here. I hope the project is successful and I hope your partnership with Tamil Nadu will continue,” said Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J. Jayalalithaa to Adani group managing director Rajesh Adani.

The Adani group are being instrumental in developing solar power in India. Recently the company signed a JV with the state government to set up a 10 GW solar park in Rajasthan by 2022, one of the largest in India’s history. More than Rs. 4000 crore was proposed by renewable energy ministry for setting up 25 solar parks in the next five years across India, starting with Rs 500 crore in 2014-15 and rising to Rs 1,400 crore in 2018-19. The main advantage of these parks is that they lower the cost of power, since common infra and regulatory facilities allow developers to quickly build these plants. India is also planning to build ultra mega solar power plants in 4-5 places, with massive capacities of 1000-4000 MW.
