More schools in NYC to instal Solar Panels

New York city Mayor Bill de Blasio is all set to instal solar panels on New York city schools. The total investment will be about $28 million, from which $5 million will be funded from state grants. A total of 24 schools will get started as of now. It is expected that these installations will approximately triple the current power from the city’s present installations. This comes after the K-Solar program which aims at solaraizing the public districts schools in New York.

The solar panels have a capacity of about 6.25 MW. The Mayor is highly enthusiastic about the current project and feels it is his moral responsibility to educate children about the benefits of solar power and give the future generation a greener and cleaner planet to live in! There will be a separate course for students to study solar and track its real time benefits. New York city committed to reduce the greenhouse emissions by 80% by the year 2050.

De Blasio has set solar installation targets at:

a) 100 MW of solar power on public buildings and

b) 250 MW of solar power on private buildings by the end of 10 years.

If the targets aren’t met, the Mayor is ready to announce incentives for owners who agree to invest in solar.

“It’s the right thing to do for our children and grandchildren,” de Blasio said, noting that the panels will have a capacity of 6.25 MW. “With the help of our partners at the state government, we’re one step closer today to handing off a planet that will be a safe place for future generations.”

Conclusion

The benefits of solar energy is ample and we at Greenworldinvestor are continuously promoting the idea of Going Solar! The cities around the world are engaged in different solar activities. Solar energy has reached grid parity in different parts of the world and solar is becoming more affordable by the day. More and more houses/ properties should instal rooftop panels and enjoy the benefits of the ample solar energy. I think this is an excellent step taken towards solarization and also educating the world and the future generation about the advantages of solar.
