SunPower to add Storage systems to Residential Solar

Residential Storage Systems by SunPower

Residential solar is gaining a lot of popularity these days. Consumers now know the benefit of using solar energy as their source of energy, since it is freely available and is environment friendly. Not only that it is also more economical than the electricity. SunPower (SPWR) which is amongst the biggest installers in the USA is planning to add a storage system to the residential solar set up. It believes that adding a storage system will help consumers monitor their electricity costs and also give a sense of security in case of power cuts. They can use the stored power to even charge their electric vehicles during the night time.

SunPower entered into an agreement with KB Homes which is a builder and installer in USA, to instal energy storage system at customer homes in California. SunPower is also running pilot programs in Australia and Germany. Australia has done wonders in the residential solar segment especially rooftop solar, with more than 3.4GW installed on 1.4 million homes. The continent receives a large amount of solar energy and also uses it optimally. Rooftop Solar can be easily installed avoiding the long delays in permitting, environment clearance, land siting; and using the existing transmission infrastructure.

I feel this is a great idea, given the rising popularity of solar energy usage. The power generated and stored during the day time can be used at the nights. With more and more communities joining the residential solar program, it will be really a good chance for the company to capture the residential market for energy storage.

Presently, solar storage for residential is very costly, therefore, every body can not afford. USA government is providing subsidy for encouragement residential rooftop solar PV. Storage system needs technological innovation for reduction in cost of storage. People and government of USA are cost and environment conscious.
